Which is better, kayaking on the Ottawa River or Kayaking on the Rideau Canal?

Kayaking the Ottawa River is the best experience. Here’s a summary of both experiences, then you can decide for yourself!

What time of year is best for kayaking? and what time of day?

Summer (July – September) is the best time of year because:

Water Levels: Moderate to low, depending on dam releases, creating generally calmer conditions
Temperature: Still refreshing but warmer than spring, making for comfortable paddling and splashing
Safety: Best time for recreational Ottawa River Kayaking; just keep an eye out for boat traffic and occasional strong currents near the rapids

The Best Time of Day to KayakFor a calmer kayaking experience on the Ottawa River, join us for a morning or early afternoon paddle. By mid-afternoon (approx 2 pm-5 pm), there are larger boats and jetskis on the river that create big waves, making a kayak journey more challenging.
