Nestled in the heart of Canada’s capital, Ottawa, the NCC River House stands as a serene oasis along the Ottawa river. Managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC) , this architectural gem offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Whether you are a local resident or a tourist exploring Ottawa, the NCC River House promises an unforgettable experience.
Beyond its natural beauty, the NCC River House holds significant historical and cultural value. Constructed between 1914 and 1925, the building designed by the architect C.P. Meredith housed the Ottawa New Edinburgh Club (ONEC) for almost a century. In 2010, the building was recognized for its longstanding links to the history of canoeing in Canada and was designated as a recognized federal heritage building.
Between 2019 and 2023, the Riverhouse went through extensive repairs and upgrades in order to make it usable year-round. It has since then housed three different tenants: Bytown Catering, Ottawa Riverkeeper and the Ottawa New Edinburgh Club (ONEC).
The NCC River House boasts stunning natural surroundings. With the Ottawa River right under it, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of the waters and lush greenery. This tranquil setting makes it an ideal spot for relaxation and contemplation, away from the bustling city life.
